This page provides details of whether you can register as a British citizen if you are a British overseas territories citizen who is a United Kingdom national for European Community purposes because of a connection with Gibraltar.

The requirements you need to meet

To register as a British citizen you must:

§               be a British overseas territories citizen; and

§               have connections with Gibraltar.

In order to have connections with Gibraltar, your mother or father must have been:

  • born in Gibraltar; or
  • naturalised in Gibraltar; or
  • registered in Gibraltar as a British overseas territories citizen; or
  • registered in Gibraltar as a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies before 26 February 2002.

If your parents did not marry, your connection with Gibraltar must be through your mother.
